SPUD BUCKET CHALLENGE & PICNIC

The Spud Bucket Challenge is a GCC event designed to illustrate the effect of 'sowing seeds' and experiencing the plentiful harvest.

The GCC community were given one bucket and one seed potato and sent out to see what harvest they could produce.

Here are the rules for the competition. You could try this as well!

1. Potato must be planted and remain planted in the bucket provided.  It must not be transplanted.

2.You may feed your potato plant with any fertilisers, composts, sprays etc, that you choose.

3. Bucket height can be extended so that the final container is no more than double the height of the existing bucket.  Any extension must not be wider than the widest diameter of the existing bucket.

There is a lot of information on line about how to grow a potato - the idea is that you keep covering up the sprout so it grows more roots and therefore more baby spuds - but check out on line - its all there!
PS: Don't forget to put some holes in the bottom of your bucket.

Prizes will be awarded for:
  • Most potatoes
  • Largest potato
  • Heaviest overall weight of potato
  • Weirdest shape potato
  • Potato that most closely matches the face of it’s grower

Spud Bucket Harvest!!!

Potatoes will be harvested on Sunday 14th Dec at a Church picnic at Cornwall Park. We start weigh in at 1pm.
Bring your potato plant fully planted and still in its bucket, to be pulled out by the foliage in view of the other competitors!
Bring your friends, family, picnic blanket, lunch and ENJOY!

This is really just an elaborate excuse to get together!
